SLR cameras

So....I've been thinking about buying a digital SLR camera sometime in the very near future but I have no clue what to get. Maybe the canon digital rebel? Maybe the Nikon D40? Who knows...and until I make up my mind I'll be searching and looking. Any suggestions are welcome!!
